He used to scare the shit out of the rest of the band when he would climb up structures and then just drop onto the crowd betting he could get caught and not fall flat onto the ground. He grew out of that phase, but he did some crazy shit back in the height of their popularity.
Spoiler alert, I would come to love No Code and then their subsequent album Yield became my favorite of theirs. The track list really is all over the place. However, I couldn’t imagine another way to sequence these songs. I think this record has grown on several Pearl Jam fans like me because we’ve sat with all of their music so much. If you’re not into them, this is the last record I would hand you. Maybe a couple of songs I would say go for it (Hail, Hail and Present Tense).
Regarding your comment about sounding like Evenflow or anything else on Ten, it can be said about everything after Ten. Ten was produced in a different way, but also in a way that sounds dated to me with the constant reverb. I love Ten and that record is nostalgic, but I prefer the rawer sound you get off of the other albums they released in the 1990s.
